마왕 로니 제임스 디오를 추모하기 위해 모인 역대급 헤비 메틀 드림팀 This Is Your Life

2010년 안타깝게 암으로 세상을 떠난 마왕 로니 제임스 디오(Ronnie James Dio)를 위한 동료 후배들의 헌정 앨범이 발표되었다. 그는 세상을 떠나기 얼마전까지도 항암 투병을 하면서도 옛 블랙 사바스의 멤버들과 함께 Heaven And Hell을 결성해 콘서트와 앨범을 제작하는 등 후배들의 본보기를 보이며 왕성한 활동을 하기도 했다. 본 앨범은 어린 시절부터 그의 음악을 듣고 자라거나, 또는 그와 동시대 함께 활동하며 그를 존경하는 수많은 아티스트들이 참여했다. 디오가 활동했던 레전드급 밴드들인 레인보우, 블랙사바스, 디오 등의 대표곡들이 골고루 수록되어 있다.
라인업만 살펴봐도 로니 제임스 디오의 존재감을 바로 느낄 수 있다. 그야말로 그가 아니면 나오기 어려울 정도의 헌정 앨범이랄까. 디오와 함께 수십년간 메틀씬에서 함께 한 70년대부터 그와 함께 록계를 이끌던 Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Scorpions, Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), (최근 리더인 레미 킬미스터가 세상을 떠나며 록팬들을 안타깝게 한) Motörhead부터 헤비메틀 전성시대 80년대 후배들인 Metallica, Anthrax, Doro (Warlock) 등은 그의 동료이자 직계 후배들이라 할 수 있다. 하지만 그밖에도 Killswitch Engage, Corey Taylor (Slipknot) 등 2000년대 이후의 주목 받는 젊은 메틀 밴드들도 다수 참여했고, 마이크 포트노이 등이 참여한 수퍼 프로젝트 메틀 밴드 Adrenaline Mob 등의 음악도 주목할만하다. 또한 생전 디오를 존경했으며, 그와 각별한 사이였던 영화 배우이자 뮤지션 잭 블랙의 밴드 Tenacious D, 그리고 마지막 트랙에는 본 앨범의 제목이기도 한 디오의 오리지널 곡 This Is Your Life가 수록되어 있다. 후배들의 존경심을 담은 앨범으로 각별한 의미가 담겨있으며, 본 앨범의 수익금은 암 연구 재단에게 기부된다.
