브리티쉬 글램록의 절대 명반, T. Rex의 Electric Warrior (1971년 作)

1967년 싱어송라이터 겸 기타리스트인 Marc Bolan에 의해 결성된 Tyrannosaurus Rex, 초창기 브리티쉬 포크와 사이키델릭 록 사운드를 접목했던 밴드로 1970년 그룹명을 T. Rex로 개명하면서 본격적인 글램록 시대의 장을 열었다. T. Rex라는 그룹명으로는 두번째 앨범이며, Marc Bolan 자신에게는 여섯번째 앨범인 Electric Warrior는 글램록을 말할 때 빠질 수 없는 명반으로 평가받고 있을 뿐 아니라, 롤링스톤지가 선정한 500 Greatest Albums of All Time 부분 160위에 랭크된 바 있다. 참고로 1971년작으로 발표되어 데이빗 보위의 Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And the Spiders From Mars보다 1년 정도 먼저 발표되었다. Marc Bolan의 초창기 파트너이자 David Bowie의 69년 명반 Space Oddity를 프로듀싱 했던 Tony Visconti, 그룹 Yes, Strawbs의 키보디스트로 잘 알려진 Rick Wakeman, 그룹 King Crimson의 색소포니스트 Ian McDonald 등이 참여한 것도 눈여겨 볼만하다. 빌보드 팝 싱글차트 10위, 영국과 아일랜드 싱글차트 1위에 올랐던 글램록의 명곡 ‘Get It On’, 부기록과 접목된 두번째 싱글 ‘Jeepster’, 영화 Billy Elliot에 삽입되어 영화팬들에게도 잘 알려진 ‘Cosmic Dancer’등을 수록하고 있다.
