몇년전 공식 해체되며 이제는 전설 속에 남게된 80년대 최고의 글램메틀 밴드 머틀리 크루의 리더 Nikki Sixx가 1986년 12월 25일부터 1987년 12월 24일까지 직접 쓴 1년간의 다이어리 The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star.

80년대 중반 당시는 3집 Theater Of Pain부터 4집 Girls Girls Girls의 제작과정, 투어 활동 등 밴드가 최고의 대중적 인기를 얻던 전성기로, 특히 니키 식스는 뛰어난 음악성과 무대매너, 외모를 갖춘 동시에 록계의 트러블메이커로서 당대 최고의 록스타의 상징 그 자체였다. 본 다이어리는 20대 후반이었던 그의 삶을 중심으로 그와 떼어 놓을 수 없는 밴드 머틀리 크루의 나머지 3명의 트러블메이커 멤버들을 비롯해 매니저, 레코드 회사 그리고 젊은 시절 그에게 영향을 미쳤던 음악과 뮤지션들에 관한 이야기, 존경하는 선배 에어로스미스, 80년대 후반 LA에서 라이벌로 등장했던 Guns N' Roses의 기타리스트이자 무명시절부터 그와 알고 지냈던 절친한 관계인 슬래시와의 대화 등이 포함되었다. 아름다움과 추함, 기쁨과 좌절이 뒤엉킨 화려했던 80년대 록스타의 모든 것을 있는 그대로 보여주며 독자들과 평단 모두로부터 극찬을 받았다. 또한 책 전체가 고급스러운 재질을 이용해 당시의 모습을 담은 다양한 희귀 사진과 인터뷰, 그래픽아트 등이 상당수 추가되어 지루함을 주지 않을 정도로 비주얼적으로도 우수해 소장성을 높여준다.
