밴드의 결성을 주도한 보컬 앤소니와 베이시스트 플리가 있지만, 기타와 드럼을 살펴보면 현재의 라이업과는 다르다. (이들 중에는 안타깝게 세상에 없는 사람도 있다) 까마득히 오래전인 20년전 레드 핫 칠리 페퍼스의 거의 언더그라운드 시절이라고 할 수 있는 초기 앨범으로 그들의 전성기이자 트레이드 마크인 펑키+록+랩을 효과적으로 결합한 음악과 무지막지하게 튀는 무대매너는 당시 오버그라운드로 적극진출하던 팝메틀의 성지였던 LA에서도 작지만 나름대로 고정팬들을 갖고 있었다고 한다. 당연한 이야기이겠지만 지금도 혈기왕성한 이들인데, 20년전의 새파랗던 이들을 상상해보면 사운드상으로 요즘과 같은 노련해진 사운드가 아니라는 것은 어렵지 않게 느낄 수 있을 것이다.
