Metallica - S & M with the San Francisco Symphony (1999)

헤비메틀의 제왕 메탈리카가 자신들의 출신지역인 샌 프란시스코의 심포니 오케스트라와의 과감한 협연. 록/메틀의 클래식적인 요소와의 만남은 이미 잉베이, 스콜피온스등 많은 밴드들에의해 이루어졌기 때문에 그다시 새로울 것은 없었지만, 메탈리카가 한다는 말에는 관심을 기울일 수 밖에 없었다. 80년대 이래 스래시 메틀의 대명사라고 할 수 있던 메탈리카의 위치상, 이러한 시도에는 여러 논란이 많았지만 결과적으로 메탈리카 특유의 장엄한 분위기와 오케스트라의 분위기가 비교적 잘 어울리고 있다는 평가를 받았다. 선곡은 초창기 대표곡들부터 Load/Reload, 그리고 몇곡의 신곡까지 포함하고 있다. 완벽함을 추구하는 밴드답게 깨끗한 화질과 음질은 레퍼런스 타이틀로 손색없다.
