실력파 기타리스트 알 피트렐리와 지미 디그라소를 맞이해 제작한 새로운 정규 앨범 The World Needs A Hero (2001)

다소 논란이 되었던 작품 Risk(1999)를 끝으로 마티 프리드먼이 탈퇴하고, Alice Cooper, Asia, Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra 등에서 활약한 실력파 기타리스트 알 피트렐리를 맞이해 새롭게 변화된 메가데스가 2001년 발표한 첫 앨범이다. 9번째 스튜디오 앨범인 본 작품에는 타이틀곡 "The world Needs a hero"를 비롯해, "Moto Psycho", "Dread and the Fugutive mind", "Return to Hangar", "Disconnect", "When" 등 수준급 트랙들이 다수 포진되어 있다. 마티와는 또 다른 스타일을 갖고 있는 고수 알 피트렐리의 연주에도 주목할만하다. 한편 밴드의 마스코트인 래틀헤드는 Rust In Peace 이후 오랫만에 앨범 커버로 돌아왔다.
