90년대 이모코어씬을 이끈 프런티어 Jimmy Eat World의 두번째 정규 앨범 Static Prevails (1996)

아리조나 출신의 이모 펑크 밴드 지미 잇 월드(Jimmy Eat World)가 인디레이블을 통해 직접 제작한 Jimmy Eat World (1994) 이후 2년만인 1996년에 발표한 2집이자 메이저 데뷔 앨범 Static Prevails. 본 앨범이 발매된 90년대 중반부터 묵묵히 이모코어씬을 이끈 이들은 발매 당시에 메인스트림을 장악했던 Green Day, The Offspring 스타일의 네오 펑크와는 감성적인 면에서는 분명한 차이가 있는 모습을 보여주고 있다. 오리지널 앨범이 발매된 10여년이 흐른 2000년대 중반 현재 메인스트림록씬을 장악한 2007년, 이들 또한 Bleed American (2001), Futures (2004) 등의 앨범을 연이어 히트시키며 이제는 당당히 정상의 위치에 올랐다.
한편 이들이 성공을 거두며 팬층이 넓어지만 그간 절판되어 구하기 어려웠던 초기작들인 2집과 3집이 오리지널 앨범 발매 10여년 주년을 기념해 초기 앨범들이 리마스터링과 함께 보너스 트랙이 추가되어 새롭게 확장판으로 재발매되었다. 상업적으로 크게 히트를 기록하지는 못했지만 싹수가 있던 밴드답게 음악적인 완성도는 만만치 않다. 국내에서 라이센스 발매되지는 못했지만 3집 Clarity와 함께 현재의 지미 잇 월드의 팬이라면 필히 들어봐야할 숨겨진 명반이다.
