2000년 U2의 새로운 전환점이자 완벽한 부활을 가져온 명반 All That You Can't Leave Behind

최고의 록밴드 U2에게 극단적인 상태에 이르렀던 Pop의 변신은 음악의 수준은 충분히 인정받을 수 있을만한 것이었음에도 불구하고 팬들에게만큼은 당황감을 가져다주었던 것이 사실이었다. 하지만 어쨌든 U2는 누가 뭐래도 지난 20여년 이래 지구상 최고의 록밴드 중 하나였고, All That You Can′t Leave Behind 는 그 물음에 대해 다시한번 "U2는 아직 건재함"을 증명해주었다. 본 앨범은 Beautiful Day, Elevation, Stuck In A Moment You Can′t Get Out Of, Walk On 등의 다수의 히트곡들, 월드 투어를 연속 매진과 최고의 흥행률, 2년간 그래미를 휩쓸며 멀티플래티넘을 기록하는 등 최전성기였던 Joshua Tree 시절의 명성을 되찾은 앨범이다. 그때와 다른 점이 있다면 표현이나 사운드면에서 더욱 성숙해졌고 서정적인면이 더욱 부각되다는 점 정도일까? 앞서말한 4곡의 싱글 히트 트랙외에도 감히 한곡도 버릴 것이 없다고 말할 수 있다. 오히려 U2의 성숙미가 우러나오는 곡들은 오히려 Kite, New York, Grace같은 곡들이 아닐까 싶다. 들으면 들을 수록 깊이가 느껴지는 앨범이다. 흑백의 사진이 담긴 아트워크와 부클릿도 인상적이다.
