′86년에 보컬과 기타를 맡고 있는 보스턴 출신의 이반 댄도(Evan Dando)를 중심으로 보스톤에서 데뷔한 록 밴드 레몬헤즈는 ′87년 데뷔 앨범 Hate your friend를 발표하면서 록 신에 뛰어들었다. 특히, ′68년도 3주동안 1위를 차지했던 사이먼 앤 가펑클(Simon & Garfunkel)의 고전 Mrs. robinson을 리메이크한 것(4집에 수록)으로 잘 알려진 이들이 베스트 앨범을 발표했다. 비록 차트상에서 크게 인기를 끌었다거나 지명도가 큰 그룹은 아니지만 10년이 넘도록 록 음악에 바쳐온 이들의 음악을 집대성한 것이라 의미가 크다고 할 수 있다. ′93년도 모던 록 트랙 차트 넘버 원 곡 In your arms(후반부에 어쿠스틱 버전 재수록), 여성 베이시스트였던 줄리아나 해트필드(Juliana Hatfield)가 백 보컬에 참여한 Rudderless, REM 풍의 It′s a shame about ray 등에서 숨겨진 보물을 찾는 듯한 기쁨을 누릴 수 있다. / gmv 1998년 08월 서동인
