The Cure의 모든 역사를 총괄한 최초의 베스트 앨범

카리스마적인 프런트맨 로버트 스미스를 주축으로 1979년 데뷔해, 지난 수십여년간 록계에서 가장 유니크한 밴드로 사랑받은 밴드 The Cure가 데뷔 20주년을 기념해 커리어 전체를 총괄하는 첫 베스트 앨범을 발표했다. 그간 80년대 중반 초기 싱글들을 정리한 Staring At The Sea를 발표하고, 90년대말에는 이후 80년대말부터 90년대 음악들을 정리하는 Galore 등 싱글 컬렉션 앨범을 2차례 정도 발표한 적이 있으나, 초창기곡들부터 최근의 곡들까지 두루 섭렵한 공식적인 앨범은 이번이 처음이다.
쟁쟁거리는 투명한 기타와 경쾌한 드럼, 소년같은 풋풋한 로버트 스미스의 보컬이 어우러진 Boys Don't Cry, A Forest, Inbetween Days, The Lovecats 등의 아름다웠던 초기 곡들부터, 본격적인 고스록으로의 변신이 이루어지고 상업적으로 최전성기라 할 수 있는 80년대 중반부터 90년대초까지 발표한 Just Like Heaven, Lovesong, Why Can't I Be You?, Never Enough, Friday I'm In Love, High 등 히트곡들, 그리고 "Cut Here"와 "Just Say Yes" 등 2곡의 미발표 신곡까지 총 18곡이 수록되어 있다. The Cure의 앨범들이 대부분 훌륭한 퀄리티를 갖고 있으나 수가 많고 접근성이 쉽다고만 볼 수는 없기 때문에 초심자를 위해서는 최고의 선택이 될 수 있을 것이다. 이후에는 대표작들을 중심으로 정규 앨범들을 차례로 들어보길 권한다.
