90년대 후반 브리티쉬 모던록의 황금기를 장식한 명반 White On Blonde

TEXAS는 이름과 달리 미국이 아닌 영국 스코틀랜드 출신의 밴드로, 밴드의 이름은 빔 벤더스 감독의 명작, [파리, 텍사스]에서 유래한 것이라고 한다. 1986년에 결성되어 89년 첫 앨범 [Southside]을 발표하고 자신들의 고향이라 할 수 있는 글래스고의 대학가를 중심으로 인기를 얻었으며, 싱글 I Don′t Want a Lover와 앨범이 차례로 영국 의 싱글과 앨범 차트의 상위권까지 오르며 이름을 알렸다. 이후 이들은 두번째 앨범 Mother′s Haven과 본격적인 미국 진출을 시도한 Rick′s Road 등의 앨범을 발표하며 꽤 좋은 반응을 얻는 등 점차로 변화와 발전된 모습을 보여주었다.
이후 휴지기를 갖고 4년만에 발표한 본 앨범 White On Blonde는 초기의 블루스/포크 록 중심의 복고적인 사운드에서 음악 스타일을 모던하고 세련되게 다시 변화, 좀더 새로운 사운드를 시도하며 대중과 평론가들 모두에게 찬사를 받은 최고의 성공작이 되었다. 특히 첫 싱글 Say What You Want는 엄청난 성공을 거두었고, 뒤이어 발표한 Your Arms Around Me 등의 싱글들 역시 연이어 차트에서 성공하였으며, 앨범은 UK 차트 1위까지 오르고 더블 플래티넘을 기록하는 등 높은 판매고를 올렸다.
