Funky한 사운드로 90년대초 얼터너티브록 붐을 이끈 대표 밴드 Spin Doctors의 공식 베스트 앨범

Just Go Ahead Now: A Retrospective는 90년대초 미국 칼리지를 중심으로 큰 인기를 모으며 얼터너티브록과 크로스 오버 뮤직 열풍에 영향을 주며 활동해 온 실력파 밴드 Spin Doctors의 10여년을 정리한 최초의 베스트 앨범이다. 이들 베스트곡 17곡이 잘 선곡되어 있을 뿐 아니라, 처음으로 리마스터링되었다는 점만으로도 매력이 충분하다. 1991년 발표된 이들의 데뷔 앨범 Pocket Full of Kryptonite은 신인답지 않은 탄탄한 연주력을 기반으로 경쾌한 로큰롤과 그루비한 재즈, 현대적 감각의 블루스한 필이 어우러지며 거물급 신인으로서 주목과 함께 상업적으로도 큰 히트를 기록했다. 앨범은 빌보드 차트 3위까지 올랐으며, Hot 100 싱글 Top 10 및 록차트 1위를 기록한 Two Princes를 비롯해 Jimmy Olsen′s Blues (록차트 8위), Little Miss Can′t Be Wrong (싱글 17위, 록차트 2위), What Time Is It:, How Could You Want Him 등 여러 히트곡을 쏟아내며 미국에서만 4백만장 이상 판매되는 등 일약스타가 되었다. 띠라서 대표반이라 할 수 있는 1집은 이번 베스트 앨범의 수록곡들 중에서도 예상대로 많은 비중을 차지하고 있다. 이후에도 밴드는 라이브 앨범 Homebelly Groove...Live(1992)과 Turn It Upside Down (1994), You′ve Got to Believe in Something(1996), Here Comes the Bride (1999) 등을 발표하며 활발히 활동해왔다. 이들은 그런지 사운드는 아니지만 너바나, 펄잼 등에 못지 않게 얼터너티브/크로스오버뮤직 붐에 큰 역할을 했다는 점에서 충분히 시대적인 존중을 받을만한 밴드다.
