프로그레시브록의 제왕 핑크 플로이드의 절대 명반 The Dark Side Of The Moon (1973년 作)

1967년 데뷔 앨범 The Piper at the Gates of Dawn를 시작으로 매년 1장씩 꾸준하게 정규 앨범을 발표하며 마니아층부터 명성을 쌓아올리기 시작한 핑크 플로이드는 1973년 본 8집 앨범을 발표하며 마침내 음악적으로 뿐 아니라 US 앨범차트 1위(미국내에서만 1500만장 이상), UK 앨범차트 2위(9x플래티넘)를 비롯해 여러나라 차트의 정상에 오르고 수년간 차트에 머무르며 천문학적 판매고를 기록, 대중적으로도 엄청난 성공을 거두며, 단순히 몇몇 마니아층에게만 인정받는 프로그레시브록 밴드가 아닌 음악사에 길이 남을 영향력있는 밴드로 자리를 확고히 했다.
컨셉 앨범으로 제작된 The Dark Side of the Moon은 갈등, 탐욕, (원년 멤버이자 메인 송라이터였던 시드 배릿에게 일부 영향을 받은) 정신 질환 등의 주제를 담고 있으며, 수록곡들은 본 앨범이 정식으로 공개되기 얼마전에 라이브로 먼저 선보이다 스튜디오로 와서 레코딩되며 좀더 다듬어지게 되었다. 레코딩은 영국의 애비로드 스튜디오에서 이루어졌으며 밴드가 직접 앨범을 프로듀싱하고, 알려진대로 알란 파슨스 등이 엔지니어링에 참여했다.
