실력파 얼터너티브 록밴드 Collective Soul의 6번째 정규 앨범 Youth (2004)

2000년 Blender 이후 4년만에 발표하는 조지아 출신의 5인조 록밴드 컬렉티브 소울의 6번째 정규 앨범이다. 2001년 밴드는 데뷔 앨범이 발표된 1994년부터 당시까지 Atlantic 레코드에서의 7년을 정리하는 첫 베스트 앨범 Seven Year Itch: Greatest Hits을 발표하고 레이블을 떠나 자신들만의 레이블인 EL Music Group을 만들었다. 또한 데뷔 이래 오랫동안 함께 해 온 기타리스트 Ross Childress가 2001년 밴드를 떠나고 새로운 멤버인 Joel Kosche가 가입했다. 그리고 이 기간 사이 밴드의 주축이라할 에드와 딘 롤랜드 형제는 이혼을 겪기도 했다.
본 앨범은 이러한 일련의 큰 변화들을 겪으며 3년만에 완성된 첫 정규 앨범이다. 앨범의 커버에서 짐작할 수 있듯이, 전작들과 비교해 이번 앨범 Youth는 좀더 밝고 대중적인 팝록 성향에 가까워졌다. 물론 노련한 실력으로 만들어낸 CS의 트레이드마크라 할 수 있는 특유의 깔끔하고 세련된 사운드는 여전하다. "Better Now"와 메인스트림 록차트 8위까지 오른 "Counting The Days"가 싱글 커트되어 꽤 관심을 받았다. 기존의 CS의 음악을 좋아했던 팬들이라면 실망하지 않을 준수한 작품이다.
