실력파 아메리칸 메틀 밴드 Iced Earth의 2012년 더블 라이브 앨범 Live in Ancient Kourion

플로리다 템파 출신의 베테랑 메틀 밴드 Iced Earth의 최신 오피셜 라이브 앨범으로 2011년에 발표된 가장 최근의 스튜디오 앨범인 Dystopia의 발표 후에 있었던 성공적이었던 월드 투어를 기념하며 발표한 더블 라이브 앨범이다. 이들은 과거 10여년간 했던 공연보다 이번 투어에서 더 많은 수의 공연을 했을 정도로 왕성히 활동을 펼쳤다고 전해진다. 이를 기념하기 위해 밴드는 CD와 함께 동명의 DVD 등의 영상물로도 제작하기로 결정하고, 본 앨범 Live in Ancient Kourion이 탄생했다. 2시간 반에 육박하는 공연에서는 30여곡에 육박하는 방대한 분량의 곡들이 연주된다. Iced Earth의 팬이라면 절대 놓쳐서는 안될 공연이다.
본 공연이 이루어진 Kourion 극장은 지중해 동부에 있는 섬나라로 현재 유명한 관광지이기도 한 사이프러스(키프로스) 공화국에 위치해 있다. 2300년 이상의 역사를 갖고 있는 고대 유적지로도 알려져 있는 이 곳은 위치상 그리스(유럽), 이스라엘/시리아/터키(중동), 이집트(아프리카) 등 여러 고대 문화가 공존했던 특별한 곳이기도 하다. 평소 소재/주제로 사용해 컨셉 앨범을 제작할 정도로 역사, 종교, 문학, 판타지 등에 관심이 많았던 밴드 Iced Earth의 이미지와도 잘 어울리는 곳으로 보인다.
