이 음반은 현재 20분께서 추천해주셨습니다

The Smiths를 연상시키는 고급스럽고 서정적인 깔끔한 사운드로 90년대 중후반 브릿팝씬의 전성기 당당히 한 축을 맡으며 국내에도 상당한 마니아층을 형성했던 밴드 Gene이 메이저 레이블인 Polydor를 떠나며, 이들의 커리어를 정리하는 앨범이 발표되었다. 화제작 Olympian(1995)을 시작으로 Revelations까지 5년 남짓한 기간동안 4장의 정규 앨범과 1장의 라이브 앨범을 발표했는데, 17 트랙이 수록된 본 앨범은 The Best Of라는 앨범의 부제에서처럼 싱글 히트곡 중심으로 구성되어 있다. 브릿팝의 명곡 Olympian, Haunted By You, Be My Light, Be My Guide부터 Fighting Fit, We Could Be Kings, Drawn To The Deep End, Fill Her Up, As Good As It Gets 등 이들에게도 히트곡이 이렇게 많았나 싶었나하고 새삼 느낄 수 있었을 것 같다. 잔재주나 유행을 타지 않는 스타일로 한곡한곡이 들으면 들을수록 멋들어진다. 현재 그들의 대부분의 정규 앨범이 절판된 상태이기 때문에 잘 만들어진 베스트 앨범을 통해 그들이 걸었던 궤적을 딸아보는 것도 좋을 것 같다. 스타급 밴드들의 앨범도 물론 좋지만 그냥 잊혀지기에는 아까운 밴드다.
