그룹 결성 20주년를 맞이한 브릿팝의 전설 Blur가 9년만에 새롭게 발표하는 베스트 앨범 Midlife: A Beginner's Guide To Blur

현재까지 BLUR의 마지막 정규 앨범으로 남아있는 Think Tank 발매 이전에 발표한 기존의 베스트 앨범 The Best of Blur(2000년)가 일반적인 싱글 히트곡 모음집 성향이 강한 반면, 더블 앨범으로 발표된 본 앨범은 상대적으로 깊이와 넓이 면에서 좀더 발전되었다고 할 수 있다.
2장의 CD에 총 25곡을 수록한 앨범 Midlife : A Beginner's Guide To Blur에는 Girls & Boys, Beetlebum, Song 2, Coffee And TV, Tender, The Universal. She's So High등과 같은 널리 알려진 인기곡들은 물론 기존 베스트 앨범에 빠졌던 곡들이 다수 포함되어 있다. 특히 데뷔 초기의 곡으로 기존 정규 앨범이나 베스트 앨범에 실리지 않았던 Popscene을 비롯, 싱글 커트는 되지 않아 다소 덜 알려졌지만 "다양함"의 집합체라 할 수 있는 블러의 음악 세계를 잘 보여주는 곡들까지 커버되어 있다. 블러나 90년대 전성기 시절의 브릿팝에 대해 관심이 있는 팬들에게라면 아마도 본 앨범의 타이틀인 Midlife: A Beginner's Guide To Blur라는 잘 부합할만한 좋은 앨범이다.
