Machina/The Machines Of God는 재결합 이전 오리지널 멤버인 제임스 이하, 지미 챔벌린이 참여하며 스매싱 펌킨스가 발표한 마지막 앨범으로 싱글 The Everlasting Gaze, Stand Inside Your Love, Try, Try, Try 외에도 I Of The Mourning, Heavy Metal Machine, This Time, Raindrops + Sunshowers 등 놓칠 수 없는 명곡들이 가득한 수작 앨범이다. 사운드적으로 일렉트로니카의 영향을 받으면서 SP의 앨범 중 가장 많은 우울한 감성이 녹아들었던 Adore와 대표작이었던 Mellon Collie 앨범의 세련미, 다양성이 공존하는 작품이다. 이전 Mellon Collie나 Adore 등에서도 스매싱 펌킨스와 작업했던 명장 플러드, 앨런 모울더 등이 프로듀싱, 믹싱에 참여한 영향이 느껴진다.
